David Acker

David Acker has had extensive experience as a musical performer and educator over the course of his thirty year career. The list of people he has performed with includes such names as Charles Earland, Jack McDuff, Bernard Purdie, Grady Tate, Glenn Moore, Marty Ehrlich, Ron McLure, Will Lee, Nat Adderly jr., Patti Austin, Richard Bona, Gil Goldstien, Andy LaVerne, Peggy Stern, Steve LaSpina, Mike Clark, Jeff Andrews, Jerome Harris, Stu Woods, Paul Bollenbeck and many others on the stage and in the recording studio. He is well known as an improviser in a variety of styles and performs regularly in the New York area as well as on the road. In 2006 David was on a tour in Ecuador, Honduras, Cuba , the Bahamas and Puerto Rico for the State Department and in 2007 he played at the Port au Prince jazz festival in Haiti with his group “the Handmade Quartet”.

Recently, David recorded demonstrations for the guitar maker Ken Parker playing Ken’s latest jazz instrument. This performance can be heard at Ken Parker Archtop Guitars. David holds a masters degree in classical guitar performance from the Mannes College of Music in NYC and has had extensive studies with such teachers as Charles Banacos in Boston and Frederic Hand and John Scofield in New York. He has taught at Bennington College in Vermont and Hunter College and the City University of New York as well as Concordia College in Bronxville, NY. David currently teaches private students at the Dwight School in NYC.

Currently David has three recordings as a leader; “Angles in Time and Space” a cd of original compositions for solo guitar; “Echoes and Images” a cd of original music and diverse standards for duo and trio and “Handmade”, a cd of original music for jazz trio.
